Protection against flooding

Flood damage can happen even if you don't live along the coast.

Flooding is a major concern among all South Carolinians, and not just for those who live along the coast. During the course of a 30-year mortgage, the risk of property damage from flooding is four times greater than that from fire. Damage from flooding can occur not only from storms, but also from damaged water mains and runoff from poor drainage.

To complicate matters, most homeowner policies do not cover flood damage. In 1968, congress created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to address this issue. The Standard Flood Insurance Program provides coverage up to $250,000 for residential buildings and $100,000 for contents. Statewide Insurance Group also offers Excess Flood Insurance to provide coverage above the NFIP limits.

A Statewide Insurance Group agent can help design a flood insurance policy to protect your home.
